Oh What A Lovely War

Oh What A Lovely War

There’s a photo of Sir John French standing with his leg cocked, hand on hip, walking cane ostentatiously placed, looking for all the world the cockney spiv. He’s distinguished only as the commander-in-chief of the British Expeditionary Force by his uniform and singular placement in the centre of events. I thought, that’s the indifferent arrogance this character needs. – T. N.
